Hillsboro High students visit Costa Rica, give back

Thirty-five students, as well as ten chaperones, visited Costa Rica for ten days as part of Hillsboro High School’s Spanish Club.

The travelers left Hillsboro High School June 14 and returned June 24.

Travelers were able to partake in activities such as zip-lining, white-water rafting, swimming in the ocean, taking a crocodile tour, and participating in Latin dance lessons.  They also visited natural hot springs, volcanoes, and waterfalls.

Not only did HHS students experience all that Costa Rica has to offer, but they also gave back to those in need.  While visiting an elementary school, students gave monetary donations as well as conversed, danced, and played soccer with the children.  Students also helped plant new trees in a reserve and donated many articles of clothing to those in need.

The trip was a fun and educational experience where students were able to practice their Spanish, learn about Costa Rican culture, and enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
