Teachers change at three of Plattevilles four schools

Last year, the Platteville School District hired a large number of new teachers because of a large number of teacher retirements.

The list of teacher changes in the school district in the coming school year is long, but for different reasons.

There will be three new teachers at Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center — Jessica Schoenberg and Karina Shaw, both of whom are UW–Platteville graduates; Michelle Sasse, a Cardinal Stritch University graduate.

Those three are replacing teachers moving to other schools — Judy Felsenthal, who is transferring from first grade to sixth grade at Platteville Middle School; Robin Bellmeyer, who is transferring from first grade to Title I at Westview Elementary School; and Kathy Blum, who is transferring from first grade to teach elementary reading at Westview.

Danielle Pickett, a UW–Oshkosh graduate, is also taking an Early Childhood teaching position at Neal Wilkins.

Other transfers are taking place at Platteville Middle School. Robin Fatzinger will be moving from sixth grade to teach seventh-grade math. Deanna Knoernschild will be transferring from seventh-grade social studies to sixth grade. Deb Elvidge is staying in seventh grade, but is moving from language arts to social studies.

The school district is also hiring Mary Beth Pence, a UW–Whitewater graduate, as a special education teacher.

The School Board May 28 approved the rehiring of Cathy Droessler to a limited-term Speech & Language position. The board Monday approved the hiring of Jackie Trumm, who taught second grade in the Richland School District, as the one-year replacement for Westview teacher Kristin Slack, who is taking a leave of absence.

The school board also approved hiring middle school physical education interns — Charles Roherty for the first semester and Dave Daino for the second semester. Both are completing their degrees at UW–Platteville.
