The Platteville Common Council voted 6–1 March 11 to nearly double the amount of rental parking the city offers.

The council’s vote opens up 18 spots on the parking lot on the northwest corner of North Fourth Street and Furnace Street, which the city purchased in January, for $360 per year.

At-large Ald. Patrice Steiner voted against renting the stalls. Steiner had proposed making nine of the stalls available for rental and having the remaining nine available for city employee parking.

Before the vote, the city had 20 spots available for rental — seven spots in Lot 7, on the northeast corner of North Fourth and Furnace, and 13 stalls on the east side of Rountree Avenue.

A memo from City Manager Larry Bierke said the city had rented 10 of the spots in Lot 7 and Rountree Avenue.

“We won’t have a problem renting all those stalls,” said at-large Ald. Mike Denn. “It won’t come in at midterm [of UW–Platteville] like Rountree did.”
