Next Tuesday, April 3 is the spring elections for local, school, and county officials. In largely a quiet election in Fennimore, marked by un-opposed incumbents for most seats, but a few seats hold interest with one contested city alderperson race in District 1, a new and unopposed candidate in District 2, a new and unopposed candidate in the school board’s Area 3, and a write-in campaign for school board’s Area 3.

Positions that will appear on the spring ballots include the mayor and an alderperson for each of the city’s four wards and a representative for area one, two, and three on the Fennimore Community Schools Board.

City election

The only challenge that will appear in print on the spring ballots is for the First Ward.

Incumbent Gerald Bollant currently holds the seat and will appear on the ballot.

Speaking to Bollant Monday evening, he recounted a spell of poor health over the last month and admitted he was feeling “kinda wore out.” The retired farmer who lives at 1970 Roosevelt St. with his wife LaVon says he is unsure he will accept and serve if elected, and that he hopes, “the other fella wins.”

Bollant has served for at least 14 years on the council, by his memory, though he admits he is becoming somewhat forgetful.

At this point, the 82-year old says he no longer cares about winning and losing the race.

Bollant is facing competition from Jonah Roth on the ballot.
