The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Lafayette County Coroner responded to a report of human remains found in a wooded area adjacent to a farm field along the 6000 block of River Bend Rd. on Monday, Nov. 10 at approximately 9:56 a.m.
    The sheriff’s department stated in a press release that the body has been tentatively identified as Dustin A. Boeck, 30, of South Wayne, who was reported missing to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department on Oct. 5. Boeck’s car was located on Oct. 3 in a ditch along River Bend Rd., approximately one mile from where the body was found.
    The individual reporting the discovery of the remains was operating farm equipment in a field next to the wooded area during the time that he observed the body, said the press release.
    Lafayette County Sheriff’s detectives were able to place Boeck, with the help of witnesses, leaving a residence in the village of South Wayne approximately between the time of 10 and 11 p.m. on the evening of Oct. 3, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley.
    Pedley explained that law enforcement efforts to locate Boeck included the use of a remote control flying drone equipped with high resolution cameras, Madison Police cadaver dogs, Dane County Sheriff’s Dive Team, a diver from South Wayne Fire Department and a Wisconsin DNR boat.
    Pedley said that during the past several weeks, officials searched farm fields, waterways and wooded areas in several square miles of land near the village of South Wayne.
    “The investigation involved our detectives tracing leads in which people reported they had seen Boeck in places such as the city of Monroe, Baraboo, Hazel Green, Benton and a location in rural Stephenson County in Illinois as recently as one to two weeks ago,” explained Pedley.
    The press release noted that Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas ordered an autopsy of the body, which began on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Madison. The investigation into this death is continuing.
