Tanglewood Ranch hosts pheasant hunt for WWP
wounded warrior hunt
Twelve veterans participated in a pheasant hunt at Tanglewood Ranch and Hunt Club March 7 and 8.

Southwest Wisconsin Pheasants Forever hosted a pheasant hunt at Tanglewood Ranch and Hunt Club on March 7 and 8 for Wounded Warriors Project (WWP) Alumni.

WWP posts the event so Warriors can apply to attend. There were over 20 Warriors who applied this year, but the ranch could only host 13.  One of the Warriors ended up having car trouble, so there were a total of 12 participants of the hunt this year.

The Warriors arrived around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, got checked in and had some time to settle in.  Around noon they warmed up with shooting some clay pigeons until about 1:30 p.m.  At about 2:00 p.m. the group headed out to the pheasant hunt and had a great time shooting about 47 birds in an hour and a half.

When they returned to the lodge Chris Fortin took a group picture and any extras the Warriors wanted taken.  A couple Warriors that hadn’t gotten a bird were taken on their own hunt so everyone was assured to get a bird on the first day.  They headed into the lodge so they could relax, while members of Southwest Wisconsin Pheasants Forever cleaned and bagged the birds.

My Turn Pub catered the event, treating the Warriors to a steak supper.  For the rest of the evening the Warriors talked with each other about their experiences.

Sunday morning started with breakfast catered by My Turn Pub.  The group headed out to another pheasant hunt around 9:00 a.m.  The Warriors shot about 30 birds on Sunday morning.  Southwest Wisconsin Pheasants Forever members again cleaned and bagged the bird for the Warriors to take home.  The Warriors were able to have a meeting while the birds were being cleaned and discussed the many issues that they are facing.

Throughout the weekend, the Warriors gave each volunteer several thanks for their part in the event. Around 13 volunteers from Southwest Wisconsin Pheasants Forever chapter help pull the event together. Tanglewood Ranch and Hunt Club donates the use of land and the Wounded Warrior Project pays for the lodge.
