PLATTEVILLE — Last weekend’s Historic Reenactment at Mound View Park included a wedding.

Boomer and Bowline Murawski of Galesburg, Ill, were married in a quiet ceremony Saturday afternoon, complete with wedding cake.

Boomer and Bowline are Newfoundland dogs that were rescued from their original owners in Colorado and Ohio, respectively.

“As rescues they have decided to adopt and not have pups of their own,” said Susan Minor of the River King Newfoundland Club. “In lieu of wedding gifts the couple requested the friends and family send a donation to River King Newfoundland Rescue.”

Rescue dogs are dogs whose breed enthusiasts take them back from owners who can no longer care for them. Rescue dogs are spayed or neutered, and veterinarians test to make sure rescued dogs have no medical issues before they are adopted.

“This was a fun ceremony with a much deeper purpose,” said Minor, who took part in the encampment with Dave Dittmer, a silversmith.
