August is an exciting time, students are enjoying their final weeks of summer and the high school has begun fall activities. The football team began the season with a win over Lancaster. The cheer squad and band entertained the crowd. Volleyball begins their season at the Belleville Invite and cross-country travels to the Darlington Invite.
Staff has been back in both buildings preparing their classrooms for the students’ arrival. It has been nice to catch up and share summer adventures.
All staff will return on Aug. 27 to begin in-service and prepare for the first day of school on Sept. 4. This summer, the school was awarded $51,182 by the Department of Justice School Safety Grant to complete safety upgrades district wide. These upgrades will include new fencing at the elementary school, additional security cameras, fobs and rekeying outside entrances, as well as security window film at the middle/high school. The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our top priority. As part of the school safety initiative, the staff will be trained in Stop the Bleed, CPR/AED, and ALICE (alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate). On Wednesday August 29th, all school buildings will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. SWTC and Fennimore Police Department will be training the staff in preparation to proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder. Please do not visit the school buildings during this time.
As the school year begins, please contact the district or school offices with any questions you may have on student registration and open enrollment. We look forward to seeing you at open house evenings.
