Lancaster senior third baseman Morelia Galvan is now batting .692 (9-for-13) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and eight runs scored through three games

Morelia Galvan, 3B, Sr., Lancaster softball

Lancaster senior third baseman Morelia is letting the frigid temperatures early this Spring slow down her hot start. Galvan went 6-for-9 with three doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored for the Flying Arrows over the past week to earn this week’s Mast Water Technology SWNews4U.com Athlete of the Week award.

Galvan went 3-for-4 with with an RBI and three runs scored in Lancaster’s 16–4 season-opening victory at Iowa–Grant on March 22, then had to wait two weeks to play again. The gap between gaps did little to slow down Galvan’s red-hot bat. She went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a three-run dinger in the Arrows’ 8–2 non-conference win over Highland last Thursday. Tuesday afternoon, she had another three-hit game, with a double and a 250-foot blast off the Belmont bus that was parked behind the left field fence in a 7–6 non-conference loss to the Braves.

Galvan is now batting .692 (9-for-13) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and eight runs scored through three games as Lancaster’s lead off batter. She will look to keep the hot start going Thursday in Lancaster’s Southwest Wisconsin Conference opener at River Valley.

Emma Lawrence, Sr., Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg girls track and field

The Benton senior broke her own team and school record in the girls 55-meter hurdles when she placed fourth overall with a time of 8.66 at the Wisconsin Track and Field Association State Indoor Championships held at UW–Whitewater last Saturday. She also placed ninth in the triple jump (35’3.25”).

Brianna Leahy, Sr., Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg girls track and field

The Shullsburg senior broke her own team and school record in the girls shot put when she placed second overall with a throw of 43’2.25” at the Wisconsin Track and Field Association State Indoor Championships held at UW–Whitewater last Saturday.

Tina Muzinga, F, Fr., Platteville/Lancaster girls soccer

The Platteville freshman scored a goal and had an assist in her high school debut to help the Platteville/Lancaster co-op defeat host Galena/River Ridge 3–0 in the season opener last Thursday afternoon. Muzinga, who was a unstoppable scoring force on the youth level, could be a key cog in the Platteville co-op’s run toward a third-straight SWC title.

Jaydn Reese, SS, Cuba City softball

Reese went 4-or-4 with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored in Cuba City’s 14–4 SWAL victory over visiting Mineral Point last Thursday. Reese, who is now batting .471 on the season, also scored a run in Cuba City’s 15–9 non-conference win over River Valley on Tuesday as the Cubans improved to 4–1 overall.
