LANCASTER — Lancaster freshman Noah Kirsch let it be known during the first golf meet of the 2019 season, that he’s going to be a strong contender for the Southwest Wisconsin Conference’s Most Valuable Golfer award this season.

Coming into his freshman season with a ton of junior golf experience, Kirsch took top honors last September at the boys 12–14 division of the Future Collegians World Tour Junior Golf Tournament at Blackwolf Run.

He’s now off to a stellar start to his high school golf career, claiming medalist honors at last Saturday’s Lancaster Early Bird Tournament with a five-over-par round of 76 at the Lancaster Municipal Golf Course.

The Flying Arrows placed fourth out of nine scoring teams, shooting a 415, and finishing 79 strokes behind the winning team from Platteville.

Kirsch played with the poise of a senior on his home course, shooting a two-over-par round of 38 on the front, followed by a three-over-par 38 on the back.

After taking bogies on the first two holes, Kirsch fought his way back to even with birdies on holes three and five, while shooting pars on four, six and seven.

On the par-5 eighth hole, Kirsch took a seven, but followed up with a par on the par-3 ninth to shoot a two-over-par round of 38 on the front.

Unable to record a single birdie on the back, Kirsch settled for par on six of the nine holes, while taking bogies on holes 12, 14 and 16.

His three-over par 38 on the back gave the Lancaster freshman an 18-hole score of 76, which was three strokes ahead of the next closest competitor, Platteville senior Cade Rohrbach.

This past Monday evening, the Flying Arrows hosted the first Southwest Wisconsin Conference meet of the season, where they finished second to Platteville in the team standings, shooting a 190 on their home course, 20 strokes more than the Hillmen.

Again, Kirsch lead the way, as he picked up medalist honors with a one-over-par round of 37, recording two birdies, four pars and three bogies on the front nine.
