Potosi sophomore hits two grand slams in 181 rout of River Ridge

Potosi senior Shae Siegert went 3-for-3 with two homers and a career-high eight RBI in the Chieftains' 181 victory over Ridge Ridge Tuesday afternoon.

    Potosi sophomore third baseman Shae Siegert snapped a 1-for-16 slump in a major way to earn this week’s Mast Water Technology SWnews4U.com Athlete of the Week award.
     Siegert went 3-for-3, slammed a pair of homer and drove in eight runs on a cold, wet, windy day — when most games were postponed — to lead the Chieftains to a dominating 18–1 Six Rivers West victory over River Ridge Tuesday afternoon. Siegert’s previous career came earlier this year when she went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and drove in six RBI in a 13–3 victory over Benton/Shullsburg April 9.
     SIegert is now batting .378 (14-for-45) with six doubles, two homers and a team-high 18 RBI through 16 games for the Chieftains, who are now 8–8 overall and 5–3 in the SRC after a 2–6 start.

 

HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):
Abby Althaus, Sr, C, Belmont softball
    Althaus had a season-high three hits and drove in a career-high five runs with a pair of doubles and a triple in top-ranked Belmont’s 21–9 Six Rivers Conference victory at Barneveld last Thursday afternoon. Althaus also went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in the undefeated Braves’ (10–0) 14–2 win at Benton/Shullsburg last Tuesday. Althaus is batting .424 (14-for-33) with five double, one triple and a team-high 12 RBI.

 

Jacob Berendes, Sr, P/SS, Shullsburg/Benton baseball
    Berendes (6–0) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts in a win over the Braves last Tuesday and tossed a two-hit shutout with eight Ks and no walks in the win over Timberwolves on Monday. He drove in a run and scored three against Belmont, went 4-for-5 with a double, five RBI and four runs against Black Hawk and was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs against River Ridge.

 

Sierra Hooper, Sr., F, Platteville/Lancaster girls soccer
    Hooper scored a career-high four goals and assisted on another in Platteville/Lancaster’s 5–1 victory over Prairie du Chien on April 18. She then scored goals in a 3–2 win over Dodgeville/Mineral Point last Tuesday and a 3–1 win over Richland Center in last Thursday’s downpour to help the first-place Hillmen (5–3, 4–0 SWC) extend their winning streak to three matches.

                              

Nolan Strang, Sr, P/OF, Shullsburg/Benton baseball
    Strang had a home run, a RBI and two runs scored against Belmont, went 5-for-5 with a double, six RBI and five runs scored in the sweep of Black Hawk and was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and four runs scored against River Ridge. Strang (3–0) also struck out five in a pitching victory over Black Hawk in game two.
