Boscobel Bird Dogs place 3rd at state tourney
Michael with team at state
Michael Richardson shot from his wheelchair at the Wisconsin State High School Clay Target Leagues 2016 State Tournament in the town of Rome near Wisconsin Rapids Saturday. He is surrounded by fellow members of the Boscobel Bird Dogs trap team, which finished third after again winning the Conference 7 Championship earlier this spring.

The Boscobel Bird Dogs’ trap team was at it again this spring. We had 53 active shooters on the team this spring, with some from outlying communities. The season began the week of April 3 through April 17 for scheduled practices and our reserve round. Each member shot at 50 birds each time out. On the weeks of April 24 through May 29, we shot our competition rounds. This year the league had 46 teams and over 1,000 students shooting in the state of Wisconsin. That’s over double from last year as the sport continues to grow.

During the 2016 season, the Bird Dogs posted eight scores of 25 straight and many other good rounds by our students. The Bird Dogs won their Conference 7 Championship again this Spring 2016. Drew Brown was crowned overall top shooter and top male shooter for the Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League Spring 2016 season with a 23.60 average out of 25. Drew was also honored as top overall shooter and top male shooter for Conference 7 this spring. Brenna Kvigne tied for third place honors for top female in Conference 7.

The State Tournament took place on Saturday, June 11 again at the WTC complex near Rome. The Bird Dogs had 36 students attend the State Tournament. A large group of family, relatives and friends joined in again this year. The weather was hot, with light winds and some gusts. There were many concessions. Forty-two teams participated with over 500 shooters this year.

A long day lasted from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and travel time. The Boscobel Youth Trap Team members each shot at 100 birds. The team was very persistent and shot well. Kudos to Michael Richardson who is doing well and made it to State to shoot from his wheelchair.

The Bird Dogs won third place overall at State. Levi Wetter tied for top gun with 97 out of 100 and shot 50 straight during his round. Congrats to all and we are proud of you.

Go Bird Dogs!
