SHULLSBURG/BENTON pitcher Tom Behrens (#25) fires a pitch to a Platteville batter during Sundays Home Talent League debut for the Fever. Behrens scored twice and knocked in two runs in the game for the Fever.

SHULLSBURG – Platteville plated runs in four of the final five innings to spoil the debut of the Shullsburg/Benton Fever as the Woodchucks held on for an 8-6 victory in a Western Section Home Talent Sunday League game held at Shullsburg’s Badger Park on Sunday, May 5.
The Fever (0-1 overall) grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Tom Behrens singled home Dave Wiegel, but the Woodchucks (1-0) answered right back with two runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead for good.
The guests plated insurance runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth frames to stay ahead of the Fever.
Behrens finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two more runs batted in for the hosts, while Jake Ruehle went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Tyler Pahnke was 2-for-5 with a run for the Fever.
There were a combined 37 strikeouts and 27 walks by the two teams in this game with three Platteville pitchers teaming up to fan 22 batters while walking 14 in their victory.
The Fever’s three pitchers– Laird, Behrens and Brian Kammes– racked up 15 Ks and 13 walks on the day.
At Hollandale, the Rockies’ Pete Hefty laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to drive in Mike Schlimgen for the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to send Hollandale over Wiota, 5-4, in their Western Section opener.
The Indians (0-1) scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull ahead 4-2, but they were unable to add any more runs over their final six at-bats. Wiota did not put a runner on base from the sixth inning on as Rockies reliever Kyle Thompson shut down their bats to earn the win.
Merrill Brunson went 3-for-4 for the Indians with three RBI, while Nick Flannery finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI and he took the loss on the mound in relief. Both players had doubles in the game.
Next up, Shullsburg/Benton hosts Argyle and Wiota is at Platteville on Sunday, May 12. Both games will start at 1 p.m.
