Plattevilles Jen Schweigert will compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Austrailia on Sept. 4.

PLATTEVILLE — Jen Schweigert is a world class athlete living right here in Platteville.

Schweigert, who has owned Snap Fitness since 2008, is headed to Australia on Sunday to compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mooloolaba, Queensland on Sept. 4.

Schweigert, who has completed nine 70.3 Ironman races (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run) as well as multiple marathons and half-marathons and two Big Shoulders 5K swims in Chicago (2013, 2014)  during her competitive career, the first in Kansas in 2010.

Her most recent competition was in Michigan on Sunday, where she set a new personal record for the bike portion of the race by averaging 20.9 miles per hour for the 56-mile bike ride.

Schweigert qualified for September’s Ironman 70.3 World Championships at the Racine Ironman 70.3 in July 2015. She will represent the United State of America against Athletes from 70 countries in her age group of 35–39.

In her spare time Schweigert, mentors Platteville girls through the Dubuque YMCA’s Reach and Rise program, and serves as a board member for the Platteville Community Arboretum and the Platteville Community Fund.
