NORTH CRAWFORD - North Crawford had a busy week of volleyball during the first week of school.
The Trojans began the week by hosting Prairie du Chien on Tuesday and weren’t able to put all the pieces together with losing the match 3-0. The scores were 13-25, 24-26, and 16-25.
Lexi Mack led the team in kills with five, Rachael Peterson had four kills, and Krystal Abbey had three kills. Abbie Pickett had eight assists and Morgan Eitsert had three assists for the night. Riley Chellevold had 22 digs.
On Thursday, the Trojans hosted LaFarge for the first conference match of the season. It was a well fought five set battle with the Trojans showing a lot of heart and winning the match 3-2. The scores were 23-25, 25-20, 12-25, 25-19, and 15-5.
Krystal Abbey had 12 kills and Lexi Mack and Rachael Peterson each had six kills. Morgan Eitsert had nine assists and Abbie Pickett had seven assists.
Blocking and defense played a role in the match and Elena Esparza had five blocks and Rachael Peterson had three blocks. Riley Chellevold had 23 digs and Krystal Abbey had 21.
Game four was the turning point for the Trojans, where the team didn’t let a ball drop and started playing a smarter game of volleyball.
The team traveled to Sparta on Saturday for a round robin tournament. Even though a few players were missing, new players were added, and line-ups were much different than usual, the Trojans played hard and improved throughout the day. It was a busy day with playing six matches and tough competition.
The team played well against Reedsburg, Fall Creek, won a set against Mauston, and won the match against Wonewoc Center. North Crawford will travel to Weston on Friday and the varsity will compete in a tournament on Saturday in Waukon.
