Chieftains win third straight

Senior Jaydn Noonan improved to 43 on the season with an 111 victory over River Ridge on Monday afternoon.

POTOSI — With recent wins over Benton/Shullsburg and River Ridge, the Potosi varsity softball team improved to 3–1 in Six Rivers West action.

Coach Reba Keene’s Chieftains picked up a 13–3 win over host Benton/Shullsburg last Tuesday night, and most recently, defeated visiting River Ridge 11–1 Monday.

Last Tuesday night, the Chieftains pounded out 14 hits in six innings to collect a 13–3 victory over host Benton/Shullsburg.

Coach Keene’s squad jumped out early with six runs off five hits in the top of the first inning, getting a two-run double from sophomore Shae Siegert and a two-run single from senior Jadyn Noonan.

The Chieftains added another run in the top of the second on an RBI single from Siegert, then took a 9–0 lead with two more runs in the top of the fourth, getting RBI singles from Siegert and freshman Jessica Noonan.

Benton/Shullsburg got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, then again in the fifth with one more.

Potosi closed out the game with a four-run rally in the sixth off four hits, including a two-run triple by Siegert, and RBI singles from senior Hannah Nusbaum and sophomore Paige Siegert.

Shae Siegert concluded the night with a perfect 4-for-4 outing at the plate that included three runs scored and a whopping six RBIs.

Hannah Nusbaum went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, while Jadyn Noonan was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

In the pitching circle, Noonan (4–3) picked up the win after allowing just three runs, two earned, off eight hits. She also struck out eight batters and walked one.

Monday evening, the Chieftains used four hits and eight River Ridge errors to pull out an 11–1 victory over the Timberwolves in six innings.

Of Potosi’s four hits, two were provided by Paige Siegert, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

Jessica Noonan and Aspen Walsh each had two RBIs in the contest, while Avarie Breitsprecker had one. In all, the Chieftains drew seven walks against River Ridge pitcher Jordyn Vogt.

After plating two runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third, Potosi held a 6–0 lead going into the fourth, where River Ridge scored their only run of the game.

The Chieftains closed out the contest with three runs in the fifth and then two in the sixth, ending the game early.

In six innings of work in the pitching circle, Noonan struck out five River Ridge batters and walked one, while allowing one earned run off four hits.

In non-conference action last Saturday, the Chieftains cruised past winless Darlington, 12–0 in a shortened five-inning contest.

Potosi used eight hits to score 12 runs, getting nine runners across the plate in the second inning.

Noonan led Potosi at the plate with two hits in three at bats, including an RBI double in the first inning and a three-run double in the second.

Jessica Noonan also had a two-run double in the second inning, while Aspen Walsh and Paige Siegert also picked up RBIs in the big inning.

In the pitching circle, Noonan held the Redbirds to just one hit in the five-inning shutout, while also striking out nine batters and walking none.

Following this past Tuesday night’s home game against Belmont, the Chieftains will host Argyle on Thursday night.
